Nutritional Education & Support

Good nutrition is critical to ensure proper functioning of your body's vital systems, including your immune system. Our doctor recommends the following supplements for all our patients. Some supplements may be substituted or removed depending on your specific requirements.

Vitamin D3: There is a vast body of scientific evidence showing the many health benefits of vitamin D. It helps to maintain your blood calcium balance (vital for normal functioning of the nervous system, as well as for bone growth and maintenance of bone density), boosts your immune system, aids in cell differentiation (cellular differentiation leads to a decrease in proliferation. While white cell proliferation is essential for wound healing, uncontrolled proliferation of cells with certain mutations may lead to diseases like cancer), and may be important for decreasing the risk of high blood pressure.

Drenamin: Supports adrenal function, maintains energy production and encourages a healthy response to environmental stresses.

Nattokinase: Decreases the ability of the blood to form clots. It is believed to do this by dissolving the tiny fibers, called fibrin, that form the strong mesh in blood clots.

Iodoral: An iodine supplement that provides the necessary amount of iodine to keep the thyroid gland functioning properly. Thyroid glands ensure regular heart rate, normal blood pressure, and regulated body temperature.

Selenium: A trace mineral that is essential to good health due to its antioxidant properties.

Magnesium Chelate or Magnesium Aspartate: Magnesium plays a role in over 300 chemical reactions in the body. It helps ensure proper functioning of the immune and circulatory systems, and can help maintain healthy blood sugar levels.

Enzycore: A proprietary blend of enzymes manufactured by Standard Process containing protein, carbohydrate and fat enzymes to aid in digestion.

Alpha-lipoic Acid (ALA): A fatty acid and antioxidant found within every cell of the body that helps convert glucose into energy for the cells and neutralizes free radicals. It is thought to work as an antioxidant in both water and fatty tissue, enabling it to enter all parts of the cell and protect it from damage.

Silymarin: The active extract from Milk Thistle, and a powerful antioxidant, which may protect liver cells (and other cells in the body) from toxins.

Essiac Concentrate Formula: This is the original 8 Herb Essiac formula from Rene Caisse. Her story tells of her obtaining the formula from an Ojibwa Indian medicine man, and she spent the rest of her life aiding people from all over with cancer and other degenerative diseases with the tea. It is traditionally used as a systemic de-toxifier, and anti-tumor and cell regenerative properties. The liquid extract is a very convenient form of the Essiac formula - the drops being taken in 1 to 2 ozs. of water. The herbs in the extract are the highest quality organically grown or wildcrafted. The herbs are:

SHEEP SORREL (Rumex acetellosa): For breakdown of abnormal tissue masses and toxic deposits. High in minerals.

BURDOCK (Arctium lappa): Stimulates liver and bile secretion. Lymph purifier. Removes excess fluid. Traditionally used for skin conditions,arthritis and metabolic disorders. Contains chromium, magnesium, silicon and thiamine.

RED CLOVER (Trifolium pratense): Contains isoflavones that in studies shows activity in preventing the proliferation of cancer cells. Contains, calcium, chromium, phosphorous, potassium, thiamine.

SLIPPERY ELM (Ulmus fulva): Traditionally used to dissolve and move out excess mucous and toxins throughout the system. For lubrication and inflammation of the digestive tract.

WATERCRESS (Nasturtium officinalis): Used for anemia; very high in vitamins, minerals and trace minerals. One of the few land sources of iodine. The oils contain PEITC which studies show has potential to kill cancer cells and prevent the activation of carcinogens in the body. Also contains the same isothiocyanates found in broccoli, shown to have cancer-preventative effects.

TURKEY RHUBARB (Rheum palmatum): A mild-acting stimulant for the intestinal tract, removing waste debris.

KELP (Laminaria spp.): High in iodine and many trace minerals. Aids thyroid function and metabolism.

The Essiac formula is not approved by the FDA for the treatment of any medical conditions. Information is based on certain studies and on traditional uses of herbs, but is not represented as curing or treating disease.

Topical Applications

Ozonated Olive Oil: An effective anti-fungal for the treatment of skin conditions such as dermatitis and seborrhea. Also helpful in bacterial infections such as bed sores, skin yeast, psoriasis, and leg ulcers.

Argentyn 23: This anti-bacterial and anti-viral gel is used topically on dressing changes to prevent and to heal infection.
